Deoxyribonucleic Acid (DNA)

Deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) is found primarily in the chromosomes of the cell nucleus. The DNA molecule contains D-2-deoxyribose units, phosphates, purine and pyrimidine bases arranged in a double helix. It is responsible for transmitting genetic information from one generation to another, and for directing the development of this information in the organism.

Used as a substrate for the DNase enzymes. The purity of DNA is assayed by determining the relative viscosity in 0.1 M sodium citrate, pH 7.1 at 25°C. The DNA product should not have a decrease in relative viscosity (relative to the buffer) of more than 2%.
